Tribunal Orders Appearance of Former MP and Ex-RAB Officer in Enforced Disappearance Case

The International Crimes Tribunal-2, Bangladesh, has ordered former Member of Parliament ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury and former military officer Ziaul Ahsan to be produced before the court in connection with a case involving enforced disappearance (“ED”) and killing, classified as a crime against humanity, that took place in Chattogram.

The directive was issued by the International Crimes Tribunal-2, which scheduled their appearance for April 19 as part of ongoing legal proceedings.

According to prosecutor Shyikh Mahdi, who brought the application before the Tribunal, the case relates to the alleged abduction of former union chairman Syed Abu Jafar in 2010. Authorities claim that he was forcibly disappeared and later killed. The prosecution has named Fazle Karim and Ziaul Ahsan as key accused individuals in the incident.

In a related development, Fazle Karim is also facing another case tied to alleged violence during a mass uprising in Chattogram. The tribunal has already accepted charges against multiple defendants in that case.
