Major (Retd.) Mozzafar Hossain Produced Before International Crimes Tribunal, Remanded for Interrogation
Major (Retd.) Mozzafar Hossain, one of the accused in the assassination case of former President Ziaur Rahman, was produced before the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Thursday in connection with allegations of crimes against humanity.
Following a hearing, a three-member judicial panel of ICT-2, led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, ordered that Mozzafar Hossain be shown arrested in the Tribunal’s case and granted investigators permission to interrogate him for two days. The other members of the bench are Justice Md. Manjurul Bashid and Justice Nur Mohammad Shahriar Kabir.
Mozzafar Hossain was brought to the Tribunal from prison in a prison van at approximately 9:25 a.m. and was later produced before the court for the hearing.
Earlier, on July 21, ICT-2 had directed prison authorities to produce him before the Tribunal after the prosecution informed the court that it had obtained information indicating his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity. The prosecution sought a production warrant to facilitate his appearance before the Tribunal, which the court granted.
The hearing was conducted on behalf of the prosecution by Chief Prosecutor Md. Aminul Islam. Prosecutors Gazi M.H. Tamim, Faruk Ahmad, Shahidul Islam Sardar, Barrister Shaikh Mahdi, Moinul Karim, and others were also present during the proceedings.
According to the prosecution, Mozzafar Hossain’s alleged involvement in crimes against humanity is currently under investigation by the International Crimes Tribunal. The Tribunal’s latest order permits investigators to question him for two days as part of that investigation.
Major (Retd.) Mozzafar Hossain is one of the accused in the assassination of former President Ziaur Rahman. He had reportedly remained a fugitive for 45 years before being arrested from a residence in Banani, Dhaka, on the night of July 15, 2026. He was subsequently handed over to the Military Police at Dhaka Cantonment the following day.
The International Crimes Tribunal’s proceedings concerning the allegations against Mozzafar Hossain remain ongoing.
