Adjudicating the Quarter-Final Round
Henry Dunant Moot Court Competition, 2025 — Independent University, Dhaka (29-30 August 2025)
On 29-30 August 2025, Barrister Shyikh Mahdi, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh, served as an adjudicator in the Quarter-Final round of the Henry Dunant Memorial Moot Court Competition, held at Independent University, Bangladesh. The competition, jointly organised by IUB and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), brought together some of the brightest law students in the country to engage with complex issues of international humanitarian law and the laws of armed conflict.
Over two days of intense advocacy, participating teams argued a hypothetical case involving the application of international humanitarian law, testing their ability to combine rigorous legal research with persuasive courtroom skills. As part of the adjudicating panel, Barrister Shyikh Mahdi evaluated the teams’ legal reasoning, clarity of arguments, and ability to respond to questions under pressure.
The high standard of advocacy and the dedication displayed by the competitors reflected the growing strength of Bangladesh’s young legal community. Competitions like this play a vital role in nurturing the next generation of lawyers, who will carry forward the principles of justice, accountability, and the rule of law.
Congratulations are extended to all the teams for their commendable performances and their contribution to advancing dialogue on humanitarian law.
