ICT Press Briefing on Enforced Disappearance | 25 January 2026

Press Briefing held on behalf of the Prosecution during the deposition of Prosecution Witness No. 2, Mr. Hasinur Rahman Bir Protik, in ICT BD Case No. 05 of 2025 (allegations of enforced disappearance by DGFI at the Joint Interrogation Center – JIC).

Testimony on Hasinur Rahman’s Enforced Disappearance Before the Tribunal

A quiet night. Empty streets. The sudden presence of unfamiliar individuals. In a matter of moments, the accompanying friend vanished. Then people surrounded him from all sides. After prolonged resistance, he was overpowered. What followed was a year and a half in a secret detention facility known as the “Aynaghar.” The bed and walls were smeared with blood. A mobile phone number was even written on the wall in blood.

Such harrowing descriptions emerged from the testimony of former Lieutenant Colonel Hasinur Rahman, a victim of enforced disappearance. His statement was recorded on the second day of witness examination in a case concerning abduction and torture at the Joint Interrogation Center (JIC), filed as crimes against humanity. The hearing took place on Sunday (25 January).

Hasinur Rahman appeared as the second witness of the day before a three-member judicial panel of the International Crimes Tribunal-1, chaired by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder. The other members of the panel were Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.

The prosecution was represented before the tribunal by Prosecutor Mizanul Islam, accompanied by Prosecutor Shyikh Mahdi and others.
